Terri Matthews: animator

29 March 2018 in Team

We’d love to introduce you to the wonderfully super-duper 2D animator Terri Matthews.

Terri works as a Director, Storyboard Artist and 2D Animator, and works mostly using TVPaint, Flash and Photoshop. So far her credits include Sundance, SXSW (South by Southwest) and BAFTA-winning short films, and productions for BBC Worldwide and Nick Jr.

For inspiration, Terri trawls internet forums and reads a lot of funny, sad, sexy and just plain weird stories. And in true British style, she loves using dark adult humour to tell absurdly awkward but heartfelt stories with understated characters that audiences can really embrace.

Take a peek at her showreel here:

Terri’s short film The Wrong End of the Stick (2016) is a darkly comic film using a mixed technique of live action backgrounds with practical effects, visual effects, digital 2D hand-drawn character animation and rotoscope. Making the film involved directing a live action crew and managing a modest team of animators and assistants.

The film has picked up awards including the Discovery Short Film Award at London Comedy Film Festival. It was also nominated for awards at the 44th Annie Awards in Hollywood and the British Independent Film Awards.

The Crimson Wave (2009) won the Audience Choice Award at Sydney Underground Film Festival in 2010 and has featured in two feature length documentaries.
